24/04/2017

Diageo, the leading premium beverage company in the world, has launched, alongside Merchanservis, the first edition of its Learning for Life practical training platform aimed at training and job placement opportunities for youth in vulnerable situations within the commercial sector.

The objective of this 140-hour program is the training of 60 young people between the ages of 18 and 30 years old in the cities of Barcelona, ??Las Palmas and Seville in areas such as customer service, cash management, as well as basic business skills and accounting. This programme could not have been carried out without the collaboration of different Foundations (Fundación Tomillo, Fundación Adsis and Fundación Don Bosco), who have overseen the entire process of student selection.

Training began on 13th March in Las Palmas and Seville and in Barcelona in mid-April at the Institut d'Ensenyament Superior Forma't, a company belonging to Grupo Merchanservis.

Learning for Life aims to empower students and develop their core skills as a differential element to improve employability and job placement of these disadvantaged young people.

The program consists of:

- 70 hours of technical training at the Group. Students learn the general functioning of a trade or area of business covering different activities that can be performed: refill, implantation, sales force, promotions ... in this way their possibility of insertion improves considerably since they will be able to contribute more added value to the labour needs of commercial establishments.

- 20 hours of training in personal and professional skills. Intended to develop the following skills:
   + Self-assessment and self-evaluation.
   + Communication and customer service.
   + Teamwork.
   + Self-control and conflict resolution.
   + Organization and time management.
+ Active search for employment and Labor intermediation.

- 10 hours of Diageo Volunteer Training.

- 60 hours practice on hypermarkets and big department stores.

Learning for Life represents Diageo's commitment to the employability of the youth in Spain, which has also made it part of the Greater Consumer Pact for youth employment, promoted by AECOC and aimed at reducing the youth unemployment rate in Spain and promoting dual training. The three selected cities currently have a youth unemployment rate of between 30 and 50%. Also, Diageo is an entity adhered to the Strategy of Entrepreneurship and Young employment of the Ministry of Employment and Social Security.
